Eat Think Vote

We are joining organizations across the county in calling on all our federal candidates to create a national food policy, if elected. Our way of doing this in our geographically vast riding was to ask our candidates several food security issues so that we can share their responses with our community – our customers and the general public.

Food Secure Canada, a pan-Canadian alliance of organizations and individuals working together to advance food security and food sovereignty, has spearheaded this Eat Think Vote movement to support Canadians in making food an election issue in 2015. Their four main goals for a national food policy are zero hunger in Canada, healthy school food, affordable food in the north, and support for new farmers. You can learn more about the issues and show your support by signing their petition at http://foodsecurecanada.org/EatThinkVote.

At the Food Cupboard, we asked all five candidates six questions related to Food Secure Canada’s policy goals to get a better understanding of where they stand on these very significant food security issues. You can read their answers here: Food Security Questions and Responses2 Note that Don Johnston was invited to respond to the questions, bud did not.

As well, we are having a voter online registration and information booth at the Food Cupboard during open hours between September 28th and October 19th. We want our customers voices heard in this election.
