Help our four programs make a difference
By donating to the Nelson Community Food Centre you make a difference in the community. We serve more than 1,200 low-income people every month through our Good Food Bank, while our Cooking Series, Workshops, Community Meals and Garden programs offer a place where people can learn, grow, cook and share healthy foods. One Time
One Time Gifts. We are very grateful for any and all donations. If a single donation works best for you, that’s perfect.
Monthly
You can help most by joining our Monthly Donor Program. Enrolling is a great way to provide year-round support for our programs. Call us to find out more: 778-463-5354
Organize a Fundraiser
Food: Food drives provide some of the healthiest and highest-quality food we receive. Please check out our wish list for the current food items we are asking for. We DO accept fresh produce.
- Expired foods
- Rusty or unlabeled cans
- Homemade items
- Noncommercial canned items
- Noncommercial packaged items
- Alcoholic beverages or mixes
- Open or partially used items
- Cans that have been frozen
- Perishables that have not been stored properly
Funds: Monetary donations allow us to make bulk food purchases. Because we are able to make large bulk purchases, our cost per pound of food is far lower than that of food bought at retail prices by individuals, which means your dollars buy twice as much food as they would in a store.
Bottle Drive: Host a bottle drive. NCFC is registered at the Bottle Depot, located in the Star Transfer building at 120 Silica in Nelson.

Gifts of Securities
Gifts of Securities. This is a handy way to support the Food Centre while potentially saving significantly on your taxes. We work with CanadaHelps to make is easy for you.
By making a direct gift of publicly traded securities to the Nelson Community Food Centre, you can achieve far greater tax savings than by donating the cash proceeds from the sale of the securities. When you make a gift of stocks, ETFs (Exchange-traded fund) or mutual funds, you pay no tax on the capital gains earned. This could provide a tax saving of up to 50 per cent.
A charitable tax receipt is issued for the fair market value of the securities on the date they are transferred to the Nelson Community Food Centre.
