HARVEST RESCUE

The Nelson Community Food Centre team has decided to wind down the Harvest Rescue Program indefinitely, starting spring 2025.

This has been a difficult decision based on a couple key factors.  Because of the rising costs of virtually everything, and an increased demand for our programs, we’ve had to look at our program array and be very selective. Harvest Rescue is the least aligned with our mission to create opportunities for people facing adversity to share, connect and advocate around good food. By winding it down, we are able to better focus our resources for maximum impact. For more information on this, give us a call at 250 354-1633.

We will continue to accept donations of fresh fruit in good condition this summer. Visit this page and our social media channels for more information in the coming months.

HAVE A TREE THAT NEEDS PICKING?

Connect to volunteer pickers, or find fruit trees available for picking, via the Nelson and Area Fruit Exchange group on Facebook. You can also download the app Falling Fruit, which is a global citizen science project for urban fruit pickers (featuring info on some Nelson trees).

During the 2024 harvest Season, the Nelson Community Food Centre had an influx of calls from the community to address bears on their properties. If you have concerns about bears, please contact Wildsafe BC (Home – WildsafeBC).
