We offer Food Skills programs throughout the year. They’re always fun and informative.

|Location:||Our Food Skills programs once all happened at the Nelson Community Food Centre, 602 Silica Street. These days, with the pandemic, many of our programs are online.|
Because of COVID-19 and the restrictions of physical distancing, we are doing things a little differently in our Food Skills programs. Don’t worry though, we’re still having some fun and connecting around good food for all.
We’ve launched a new cooking show, with Michaela Woeller, our Food Skills coordinator. Our intention is to post one video every couple weeks so stay tuned to this, and the Food Skills playlist on our YouTube channel. We try to provide simple recipes, tips and tricks, that’ll make it easier (and hopefully more fun) to cook with the healthy ingredients you pick up from the Good Food Bank every week. We included a couple samples below, but if you don’t want to miss any, subscribe to our YouTube channel.
Young Dinner Club – Mini Series
This spring we will be offering a new 4-week Food Skills program for youth ages 10-16. The program will take place virtually, once a week, over Zoom. During the 1.5 hour sessions, participants will cook a dinner big enough for their household. Meal kits will be provided by the Nelson Community Food Centre at 602 Silica St. (date and time to TBD).
The program will focus on getting youths comfortable in the kitchen with 4 delicious meals. The meals will cover techniques that will be transferable to many different recipes. To register for this program, or for more information, please contact Michaela the Food Skills Coordinator at email@example.com.
We will have a ‘help line’ where kids can call or email in questions as well as send us photos of their creations. If you are new to Zoom, call us at 250-354-1633 and we can set up a quick practice run with you. It’s simple and lots of fun.
